The first annual SmartStart Venture ForumSM was held in Albany, New York on October 1 & 2, 2001. The event showcased the best and brightest emerging technology companies and business innovators in New York State. The Forum united these companies with investors and professional service providers from across the Northeast. Participants submitted 100 business plans. After careful review, 27 companies were selected to present or exhibit their high-growth entrepreneurial investment opportunities in search of their initial round of institutional venture capital. Two days of presentations, seminars and networking promoted and enhanced the success of new ventures, emerging businesses, and the growth of entrepreneurship.
